Red Shirts Demonstrate in Thailand
Radio France International reports that the Red Shirts, supporters of the deposed Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who is subject to an arrest warrant for charges of corruption, demonstrated in Bangkok on Saturday demanding the ex-prime minister's pardon. Around 17,000 people protested in the Thai capital in front of Government House, demanding to know what became of a petition signed by 3.5 million supporters of the ex-Prime Minister, which asked for the pardon of Thaksin, who fled the country in order to avoid jail. Thaksin is currently being tried in absentia on corruption charges.
